🌈 What is lithotherapy?

Since ancient times, civilizations have used stones to protect themselves, calm the mind, or connect with the sacred. Lapis lazuli amulets in Egypt, jade in China, crystal quartz among druids: minerals have always been seen as energetic allies.

Lithotherapy is a holistic approach based on the principle that each stone emits a subtle vibration. These vibrations would resonate with our own energy, emotions, and chakras (energy centers), helping to rebalance what is in tension: stress, fatigue, lack of confidence, need for protection…

This is not medical treatment but a wellness tool and symbolic anchor, often associated with astrology: certain stones resonate particularly with a sign, an element (Fire, Earth, Air, Water) or a life period.

In this guide, we'll explore essential stones by astrological sign, how to choose your crystal, and an A‑Z glossary to navigate among the main minerals.

🧭 How to choose your stone: intuition or need?

There are two main schools: let intuition choose… or start from a specific need (stress, love, protection, sleep, confidence, etc.). Both approaches are complementary.

1. Intuitive choice: let yourself be drawn by a color, a shape, a vibration. Often, the first stone that "calls to you" already corresponds to what you're experiencing internally, without needing to explain it in words.

2. Choice by need: start from your current intention.

  • Stress & anxiety: amethyst, howlite, lepidolite, labradorite.
  • Love & relationships: rose quartz, rhodonite, emerald, aventurine.
  • Protection: tiger's eye, obsidian, black tourmaline, malachite.
  • Confidence & projects: citrine, carnelian, sunstone.

You can also combine astrological sign + need: for example, a Libra seeking emotional stability may turn to rose quartz or aventurine, while a stressed Aries will prefer carnelian combined with amethyst.

Most importantly: feel the stone as a symbolic ally, not as a magic wand. It reminds you of your intention and helps you realign daily.

🔄 Maintenance: purifying and recharging your stones

Like a garment worn often, a stone can "charge" with emotions, stress, or atmospheres it goes through with you. Purification removes these imprints, recharging restores vitality to the stone.

1. Water

Pass the stone briefly under a stream of clear water (spring water if possible), visualizing what needs to be cleaned. Caution: some stones don't like water (selenite, malachite, calcite, opal…). Always check first.

2. Salt

Salt is a powerful purifier but also aggressive for some minerals. Prefer a bowl of dry salt on which you place a glass container with the stone (without direct contact), for a few hours or overnight.

3. Smudging (sage, incense, palo santo)

Pass your stones through the smoke of a sage stick, incense, or sacred wood, setting your intention: release charges, bring clarity. This is a gentle method, ideal for jewelry and fragile stones.

4. Light (Moon / Sun)

Moonlight, especially during the full moon, is reputed to gently recharge stones linked to intuition and emotions (amethyst, quartz, moonstone, turquoise…). The Sun offers more direct and yang energy but can fade some stones (amethyst, fluorite, rose quartz, heated citrine). Expose them moderately.

Keep in mind that the most important thing is always your conscious intention. The stone is a support: it's you who activates the ritual through your presence, your breath, and the meaning you give it.
