Imagine your life is a movie. Destiny (or Fatum in Latin) is the idea that the script is already written, printed, and stored in a drawer somewhere before you were even born.
No matter your choices, hesitations, or dice rolls, the ending is inevitable. It's a bit scary, but also reassuring: if you miss your bus, it's not your fault, it was destiny! (Well, try explaining that to your boss, not sure it'll fly).

To understand better, let's look at how our favorite heroes deal with it. There are two teams:
Team "It's Written" 📜
- ⚡ Harry Potter: The prophecy says "neither can live while the other survives". Harry doesn't really have a choice, he must face Voldemort. It's his job, it's written.
- 🌌 Star Wars: Anakin Skywalker is the "Chosen One" meant to bring balance to the Force. Even by becoming Darth Vader (spoiler alert), he eventually fulfills his destiny. He couldn't escape it.
Team "I Decide" ✊
- 💊 Matrix: Neo goes to see the Oracle. She tells him what he needs to hear, but insists: "You know the path, but you must walk it". Neo chooses to save Morpheus. He hacks his destiny.
- 🦁 The Lion King: Simba runs away from his destiny as king for years ("Hakuna Matata"). He doesn't suffer it, he must choose to accept it for it to happen.
