🔮 Symbolic Approach
Narcissus mirror, sacred Celtic lakes, mountain lakes where Hindu nagas watch. Held water, not an ocean: contained emotion, local memory. A frozen lake is feeling on hold. An emptying lake is a resource walking away.
🛋️ Psychoanalysis (Freud & Jung)
Surface = persona, depth = secrets. Diving = introspection. Fearing the bottom of the lake is often a childhood memory (drowning, shame, family secret). The reflection shows the self-image you accept.
🧠 Neuroscience
Visual calm, short horizon. After rumination, the lake is an attempt at homeostasis. Water that is too calm can also match dissociation ("nothing is moving" even while it burns).
💡 Practical Advice
Look at the reflection without falling into it. A journal prompt: what is stagnating? Get things moving (walk, call). The lake is not a prison if it has an outlet — a tiny stream toward the outside.
