🔮 Symbolic Approach
The trickster turned ogre: when laughter isn't enough to tell the truth, it slays the naive. This isn't a criminal omen. It's the image of a mandatory joy that hides violence ("fun" families, school, the stage). Blood on the red nose means the forced alliance has snapped.
🛋️ Psychoanalysis (Freud & Jung)
The sadistic Superego disguised as amusement. Or the shadow of someone "funny" who hurts you. Fleeing the killer clown: you're finally refusing the spectacle. Being the clown: the fear of being toxic while trying to entertain. Not a desire to kill.
🧠 Neuroscience
Horror movies + uncanny face + pursuit. Amygdala and FFA are saturated. A real "just joking" conflict from the day before gets recycled. The sound of real laughter (a neighbor, a show) is enough to trigger the scene.
💡 Practical Advice
Stop a joke that hurts (yours or one served to you). Say "that's not funny" once. If the terror remains huge in the morning, talk about the nightmare to someone; it's not a movie to handle alone if it exhausts you.
