🔮 Symbolic Approach
Dybbuk, zar, exorcisms, oracles where the god takes over: possession is an old language for "something is speaking in my place." It is not proof of a demon. Often, it is your soul saying a voice (grief, addiction, family, trauma) occupies too much space. Traditional rites aimed to negotiate, not terrify.
🛋️ Psychoanalysis (Freud & Jung)
Dissociation, relational control, a fierce Superego, sometimes memories of abuse. You no longer have agency. Jung: autonomous complex. Distinguish metaphor from suffering: if you feel "taken over" in daytime life, it is no longer folklore.
🧠 Neuroscience
Sleep paralysis, hypnagogia, inner voices, fever, withdrawal. The brain can hallucinate a presence. Exorcism movies provide the material. This is not a spiritual diagnosis.
💡 Practical Advice
Upon waking: light, feet on the floor, a safe person. Return to a familiar gesture (meal, agenda). If this spills over into the day (fear, voices, real control issues), see a professional — the oracle does not replace a human.
