🔮 Symbolic Approach
White of light, of the shroud, of the page, of pale jade, of pilgrim garments. Purity or emptiness? A warm white (milk, wool, dawn) washes and begins anew. A blinding, clinical white erases too much—denial, psychic sterility. In Japan, white is also mourning: it is not always "positive."
🛋️ Psychoanalysis (Freud & Jung)
White can be a demanding superego (be clean, be blameless) or a true desire for a reset. An all-white room means you want to simplify, or you fear living mess. A stain on white means the return of reality.
🧠 Neuroscience
Light overexposure, sheets, hospital, screen snow: the brain recycles. An "empty" white also appears in phases where memory has not yet stuck an image—a transitional dream.
💡 Practical Advice
If white calms you, simplify one concrete thing. If it chills you, allow a stain: an imperfect desire, an unpolished sentence. You honor the blank page by writing, not by gazing at it.
